こんにちは

Welcome to 3rd GLOBIS Cup World Go U-20. The event you’ve all been waiting for is finally here!

In our first year, for the first time in 16 years at a global tournament, we had two Japanese players face off in the final round. In our second year, Chinese and Koreans shared the awards stage. This third year, we again are down to 16 players from Japan, China, Korea, Chinese Taipei, North America, Europe, and the rest of Asia and Oceania. We are excited to see what drama will unfold next.

Last June, as part of the 90th anniversary of the Nihon Ki-in, we laid out a vision for its 100th anniversary. As the project leader, I determined 10 actions to implement this vision.

  • Action 1. Spread and increase the number of Go fans
  • Action 2. Nurture many professionals who can compete on the global level
  • Action 3. Implement bold and radical reforms and establish a financial base
  • Action 4. Establish a Go Congress with corporate and regional leagues
  • Action 5. Create an online strategy to appeal to a wide range of people
  • Action 6. Media strategy: thoroughly spread the popularity of Go
  • Action 7. Global strategy: Japan as a shining nexus of the Go world
  • Action 8. Accumulate data and deepen research on Go: Integrate artificial intelligence and science
  • Action 9. Spread Go to Japan’s regions and revitalize those communities
  • Action 10. Respect the voices of Go fans in advance of the 100th anniversary!

As the only global tournament held in Japan and the only global tournament for players under 20, the GLOBIS Cup looks forward to celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Nihon Ki-in. We hope you will continue to support us as we move towards this goal!
